Nothing soothes the soul like a walk on the beach

May 9, 2015

Wherever you are in life, there are ups and downs. Some days are simply better than others. A big drawback of social media is that it looks like everybody is having a great life and that everyday is totally awesome. Don’t be mislead by that. Everyone has days that are not nice. We just don’t put them online so quickly.

This week had a couple of those days for me again. While I’ve learned for a big part to just accept that those days come and go, it can still be challenging sometimes. Whenever you go through some tough days, there are a couple of things that can help you.

Firstly, family and friends. I think the most valuable thing in life is to have people in your life who love you unconditionally and are there for you when you need them. You don’t have to do life alone, there are people that care and want you to be happy. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them.

Secondly, know what makes you happy. There are several things that make me feel better. I think the most important one is a walk at the beach. No matter what I’m going through in life, I always feel better when I’m at the beach. Especially when it’s a bit storming and there are not many other people there.

When you hear nothing but the wind and the waves and perhaps some seagulls, it’s just so calming. When the wind blows in your face, your worries and thoughts seem to fade away and what remains is that current moment. Just the beach and the ocean, the waves that keep coming endlessly. It makes me feel alive and glad that I’m here.

There may be several storms in your life. This week I read an inspiring quote on that one:

“No storm can last forever. It will never rain 365 days consecutively. Keep in mind that trouble comes to pass, not to stay. Don’t worry! No storm, even the one in your life can last forever.” ~ Iyana Vanzant

To summarise: everyone goes through things in life, we’re not all as happy as we present on social media and every storm will pass by. Keep breathing, maybe also take a walk at the beach to feel that you’re alive.
